So I haven't posted more than a few words on LJ in a long time. Surely, breaking that silence must herald something groundbreaking, right? Wrong.. You might or might not have known this, but today Dennys was...is...offering people a free Grand Slam between 6AM and 2PM in the States. (Do they have Denny's anywhere outside of North America? I'm curious now.) I was going to go, but I was going to go a lot later than I ended up going. Woke up early to make sure the trash was out. I left the house at 8 or so, for the Denny's up the street. Anyway, I drove up there and found that everybody'd had the same idea. Wish I had a phone that I could upload pictures with(and this'll be one of the few times you'll hear me say something along those lines.) I found a somewhat impromptu parking spot on a curb. A lady curved around me and somehow managed to make it in the spot that had opened up while I was parking. I gave her a thumbs up. Inside, I found that they were offering rain checks to people who came and couldn't stay. (Because some geniuses expected to be in and out on this on a commercial that aired on the Super Bowl, and wanted this to precede their visit to work. Though, the way this worked out, I could have DONE that.) It was about 8:05 when I got there, and I signed in, and hung out instead of leaving. Undaunted, I whipped out my PSP as soon as I had room to do so. I noticed there were a few school-age kids hanging out here. Based on their conversation(as we were all pretty tightly packed in so I couldn't have missed if I tried) they had skipped school, and had visited multiple Denny's to get a free grand slam. Eventually, my party of one was called. I heard someone ask "Hey, can we join you?" as I was guided to my table. As it turns out, I wound up with a huge corner table. I told the waitress that they could have someone else sit there too if they wanted. And eventually two other people joined me at my table, a black lady and an older white fellow who had just gotten off a night shift at their jobs. I'd already ordered by that point, and asked for scrambled eggs on my meal. By the way, they offer soda, but you will have to pay for anything other than juice, water, milk or coffee, I think. I got Coke anyway. The lady ordered her eggs scrambled and asked for four strips of bacon in lieu of the sausage links that normally come with it. She ordered hers 'scrambled hard.' I may sound like a naive idiot, but I had no idea what that meant until I got mine and the eggs were...mildly runny. Even despite that, and despite the fact that the waiting staff was running around like chickens with their heads cut off(the woman's order was incorrect the first time it came out), and despite the fact that it was Denny's, the food was pretty good. I may come up here sometime when it's not free. But I will probably go back to my omelettes all the same. Still, it's free food, and you can get a rain check there that is good until 2/13. They also offered a mailing list that will result in coupons and a free birthday meal. I can go for that, assuming they're not going to come over and sing when I bring the coupon in. ...Man, this is a lot of text for a post about a free meal. It seems like things are changing pretty quickly. My brother is driving himself around, and my parents are doing all they can to make sure he doesn't end up in an accident, because of his....enthusiasm with driving. He's got his own job now, which means he's making money and can buy his own things. I've been playing what I think is probably far too much City of. Friends are all into it so that is basically making it impossible for me to tear myself away from a game I already liked without playing with friends. We're all playing villainside on Virtue. Hoping to actually get a character to 50, which would be cool. Just dinged 30 last night, have yet to complete the quests for that level. Maybe I'll put up some images from the epic battles of yesternight. So as I type this, it's 11 AM and I'm at work. I am useless right now because I know that once I leave work, I'll be heading to the Gamestop and getting my SoulCalibur on. I am fully prepared to play the fool for this because if the character creator is at least a bit better than it was on SC3, and the online play is solid, it will be what I hoped for already. Drawing proceeds very, very slowly. I brought a book of poses today, but it's pointless because we don't really have much time to think today. Typing this up between loads, and it's not enough time to crack open a sketchbook and work. But eh, I may try it anyway. In the meantime, I'm also going over these GNs of Invincible again. Two years ago, when I started working at this call center, I for the most part enjoyed it. It got hectic at times, but I enjoy helping people and I get to screw around on a computer all day. Right now, it's starting to lose a bit of its luster. We've experienced some sort of massive exodus of agents, either due to firing or quitting, and there has been a ridiculous number of calls coming in the queue. It's becoming more and more rare that we have a day where there is less than a double-digit number in the queue for most of the day. They've been getting weird about my shifts. We are guaranteed five days a week. Recently I've had a lot of two week stretches there they'll sneak an extra day in by stretching consecutive days into the next week. I've been letting it slide because I know we're short staffed and because my schedule adherence is crummy (mostly because I've stopped caring as much because of the stress level building). Those of you who know me know that it takes an immense amount of stress to really get to me. It's starting to affect me, to the point where it affects my performance at work and how I'm dealing with people period. Helps I've got a supervisor that seems to care some, but if this pace keeps up I don't know if I can keep working here. Whatever I do, I still refuse to allow myself to succumb to this entirely. Getting praise from customers who, calling in, didn't know their os from their browser who suddenly have control over their computers, makes my day. So it's been a while since I posted here. Time for a bit of an update in the world of Striker. - I finally got my license a couple of weeks ago. I am driving myself to work, and not a moment too soon, since my schedule was about to get kind of crazy.
- I am working on getting some good health insurance to tide me over until I can get on my job's plan.
I've been playing a lot of City of Heroes lately. Despite my alt-induced stupor, I still managed to secure a character at level 30. Not that I've touched that character since. Gotta cool down on it, I guess. I've been having fun with villains. Scanner missions, lots and lots of caves. Work has been ridiculous lately. We are restrained to keeping our bags in the (woefully understocked) lockers, which adds another couple minutes to the start of my day, which I do NOT need and which is not likely to have fixed the theft problem we're having. On top of which, it's summer, meaning lots and lots of extra calls. This is bad because it gets stressful, but it's good because nobody's questioning our worth when there's constant overflow. Real best of times-worst of times scenario. But I'll get by like I always do. I need to work on my discipline and start keeping a neater room, because it kills any productivity beyond gaming I might accomplish. (And I need to stop falling asleep in my computer chair.) Sylvia Ourelia Age:21 Height: 4'11" (1.4m) Weight: 100lb (45.3kg) Gender: F Sylvia is a female of slight build, with platinum blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. She sports a faintly elfin, childlike appearance. Originally, she kept her hair in a short bob, but she's been growing it out more. She typically wears odd outfits, but the colors of white, black, and blue make an appearance in all her clothing. Sylvia has no real memory of her parents save for fuzzy ones from when she was very young( five? six? somewhere thereabouts). While she actively avoided any sort of brainwashing or mind control (never tried, this is why she isn't able to now but may develop the ability later) she did use her telepathy, as a psychological edge, to ensure she never had to go completely homeless or hungry. In this way she traveled around, from home to home, stowing away on ships to leave a planet or colony when she tired of them. This is how she ended up on the Opera, only she was discovered this time. Shocked when the crew (of two?) allowed her to stay, provided she carried her own weight as a crew member. The crew were aware of her telepathy (having her try to use it on occasion) but may not be fully aware of the depths of her telekinetic ability. ( as she's only used it in full force a couple of times and rarely directly in front of anyone other than S1gg) Sylvia is selfish and a little spoiled. She hasn't really contributed as much as she'd like to claim, and affects an superior, disposable attitude toward nearly everyone else who hasn't shown they have some sort of power over her or proven they are of use to her. Obviously this is lessened with her crew members, whom she regards as surrogate family and actually cares about a lot, regardless of how she acts toward them. Recent events on the Opera have revealed to her what the crew means to her, and have inspired her to refine her telekinetic control, and explore other avenues of her mental abilities, as well as better learn how to help out with the ship in terms of repair and operation.
